Privacy Policy – KMSH New Tab Extension

KMSH – Komuniteti Mysliman i Shqipërisë ("we", "our", "us") provides the KMSH New Tab browser extension ("Extension") to show prayer times, Quran verses, and related content on your new tab page.

We respect your privacy. This policy explains what data the Extension uses, how it is used, and what is NOT collected.

1. Data We Store Locally in Your Browser

The Extension stores the following settings ONLY in your browser (using localStorage / chrome.storage):

Language preference (Albanian / English)
Layout / theme selection
Background selection (Unsplash Nature / Albanian Mosques)
Location selection (country and city you choose)
Location mode (auto-detect vs. choose city)
Verse display mode (Arabic + translation / translation only / Arabic only)
Reciter choice for Quran audio
Last shown Quran verse (for fast reload)

This data never leaves your device unless your browser itself syncs extension data via your Google account. We do not see or control that sync.

2. Location and Prayer Times

If you enable automatic location:

The browser's Geolocation API may be used to get approximate latitude and longitude.
These coordinates are used to calculate prayer times or sent to a public prayer time API (e.g., Aladhan) to get local prayer times.

If you choose your city manually:

No geolocation is requested; we use the city you select to query prayer times.

We do not create any account or profile from this data.

3. Network Requests to Third‑Party Services

The Extension calls several external services directly from your browser:

Prayer Time APIs:

ezanvakti.emushaf.net (Diyanet-based times for supported cities)
api.aladhan.com (fallback prayer times and Hijri date)

Quran Text and Audio:

api.alquran.cloud and cdn.islamic.network (Quran metadata)
everyayah.com (audio recitation files)

Background Images:

api.unsplash.com and images.unsplash.com (Unsplash Nature photos)

Important: When your browser calls these services, they automatically receive your IP address and standard HTTP headers, like with any normal website. We do not operate these third‑party servers and do not control how they log data. Please refer to their own privacy policies.

We do not add any identifiers, tracking parameters, or analytics to these requests.

4. What We Do NOT Collect

No name, email, or account registration
No passwords or payment information
No browsing history or page content
No advertising IDs or analytics IDs
No custom tracking beyond the APIs above

We do not run our own backend server for this Extension and do not store any logs outside of your browser.

5. Permissions

The Extension requests the following Chrome permissions:

storage – to save your settings (language, layout, location choice, etc.)
geolocation – optional, only used if you enable auto-detect location for prayer times

Host permissions are required to call the external APIs listed in section 3.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

All settings are stored in your browser. To remove them:

Remove the Extension from your browser, and/or
Clear extension data / site data in your browser settings.

This will delete the stored settings and cached verse/prayer time data.

7. Children's Privacy

The Extension is a religious utility and does not target children specifically. It does not collect personal information that can identify a child.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will be changed. Your continued use of the Extension after changes means you accept the updated policy.
